This is an edited transcript of an interview that was conducted on Monday, July 29, 2018.
The following interview is the transcript of the interview that aired Monday, June 30, 2018 at 8:20 p.m.
Reporter: This is all part of the Outside the Lines series.
You’ll be able to see all of our coverage of the Russia investigation at the bottom of this article.
Let’s start off with the biggest question that people are asking.
President Donald Trump says he didn’t know anything about Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election and says he’s “not even aware” of the investigation.
He also denies knowing anything about the meeting between his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
The president says he has no knowledge of any attempt by Russia to influence our election, including the meeting with Jared Kushner, or any other contact between my campaign and any foreign government.
The only time I heard of any collusion, it was reported on CNN.
It was reported by The New York Times.
CNN, which is owned by CNN parent company Time Warner, is owned, in part, by the same media conglomerate that owns NBCUniversal.
So that’s what CNN reported.
CNN also reported that in an interview with The Washington Post, Kushner denied the existence of any meeting between the Trump campaign and Russians.
So I don’t know.
So, what we don’t have, and what we have heard from numerous news organizations, is any kind of evidence that says that he and other members of the Trump administration colluded with Russians to interfere with the election or with any American elections.
And so, there’s a lot of information that we don, and I don, don’t think exists.
Reporter of this interview: Do you think that there is evidence of collusion?
President Trump says yes, he thinks so.
CNN has reported that there were a number of contacts between Russians and people in the Trump transition team, including with Jared.
The administration says there’s no evidence of that.
And there’s nothing to indicate any collusion by the Trump or his associates with any Russian official.
But there are some people who, I mean, you know, it’s a big deal, because, you see, what happens, you have somebody like Jared Kushner who has got, you understand, who has been a really good friend of mine, but I mean he’s got the power.
He’s a very powerful person.
He could take all of the information that they had about the election and the election results, and use it to blackmail the American people.
So what happens when you say that to a member of the administration?
You know, what’s the first thing they do?
They call the Attorney General, who they say is in trouble, because of the collusion.
But the AG, who is a Democrat, does nothing, because the attorney general’s office has never been in trouble.
And you have people like James Comey, who the president says is a nut job, who’s been fired because he’s not letting go of the Clinton investigation, which he should be doing.
So he’s in a lot more trouble than I am.
But, you look at what’s happened.
So you have the Trump team trying to influence American elections with their own interference, which they think is okay.
They have to know they’re doing it, they’re putting it in front of people, they know that it’s going to be used, but they’re not getting the results.
Reporter on line: And what about the investigation of whether there was collusion between the campaign and Russia?
Well, I think there’s an investigation that’s been going on for a while, and there are people in this administration who are going to continue to go to the very top of the chain of command.
They’re going to try to find out how this all started, what really happened, why it’s happening, who knew about it, who was involved.
And the investigation will continue, and it will continue to investigate, because it’s just a fact.
I think that’s very important.
Reporter who asked this question: So if you had known that this was going to happen, you wouldn’t have said anything to Jared, right?
You’re trying to protect your family.
Trump says no, I never would have said that.
CNN reported on June 26 that Kushner was “aware of communications between senior members of President Trump’s transition team and Russian officials.”
But CNN also said the meeting happened, but the attorney for Kushner’s attorney did not tell the White House that the attorney was in a conflict of interest because he was in charge of the Russian investigation.
So we don.
You know it’s possible that Kushner may have lied to the White Houses investigators about the nature of the meeting and the nature and timing of the conversations.
And if Kushner lied, I don.
But if he did, I do.
But it would be very unusual for me to lie, you’re telling me that this person lied, but,
